The rectangular plank top is made in two sections and finished with a moulded edge. The frieze is fitted with a single drawer decorated with a fruitwood stringing around the escutcheon and handles connecting to a band framing the shape. The brass handles and escutcheons are period, and later replacements. The frieze is decorated with applied 'D' mouldings, and elegant shaped brackets at each corner below the drawer. The table stand on three elegant, baluster and ball turned legs at the front and two at the back, one with an old repair, joined by wavy, front and side stretchers with a straight back stretcher. The bun feet are 18th century replacements. Excellent original colour and patina. English, fourth quarter of the 17th century. 11071542

This sidetable is unusual having three front legs, and the additional central leg gives it elegance and gravitas. Other features, such as the wavy stretchers, the pierced brackets and the delicate stringing add to this. The colour has matured into rich, golden tones, and the patina has developed a fine, lustre over time. The condition is very honest, with repairs and replacements in areas that have worn or become damaged by regular use over time.
