The fluted carving of the legs is a rare late-16th century Renaissance feature.
PROVENANCE : In the 1820's George IV remodelled and refashioned Windsor Castle transforming it into the opulent interiors and furnishings that survive today. At this time the early furniture in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle was removed and reallocated to other properties or disposed of with the exception of a set of Indian carved ebony chairs. This table has come from a collection in Germany where it has passed through a family by descent.
The thick top, iron foils and lustrous patina are characteristic features of Spanish furniture.
