An exceptional, late 16th/early 17th century ebony cabinet with pietre dure panels

The top inlaid and decorated with two geometric patterns, each comprising 5 sections, with repairs and losses to the mouldings, and faced with a moulded edge. The sides inlaid and decorated with a single geometric pattern, comprising 7 sections, with repairs and losses to the mouldings, and original carrying handles. The frieze containing 8 drawers inlaid with 18 pietra dura panels decorated with wild cats, faced with a moulded edge and divided by a ripple moulding. 8 drawers double panel, 2 drawers, triple panel. One replaced escutcheon and 4 replaced knobs, the locks replaced. A central drawer decorated externally with two inlaid panels of pewter/silver, and internally with an inlaid panel of burr yew, and replaced hinges, lock and escutcheon. Revealing 4 inner drawers inlaid with burr yew, with original drop handles. The bottom faced with a moulded edge. The carcass also faced with a ripple moulding.
The carcass oak, the drawers lined with oak. Probably Florentine, fourth quarter of the 16th century. The panels from the Grand Ducal Workshops, Florence.
