A fine 19th century velvet pelmet incorporating a fine, 17th century embroidered velvet panel
The 17th century embroidered panel is on a velvet ground and has a finely worked central shield containing a portrait of a bearded man surrounded by a wreath of flowers and foliage. This is joined to two other embroidered wreaths with embroidered ropes and tassels. The embroidery is gold and silver purl with silk thread work. The pelmet is made from 19th century velvet faced with gold braid and a deep fringe at the bottom. Cleaned and conserved.
