A PAIR OF VINTAGE, LUCITE OR PLEXIGLASS, CANTILEVER, 'Z' CHAIRS - Stylish minimalist design with distinctive low backs creating suitability for different functions: seating, occasional tables or display stands - Each chair is cut from a single sheet of 2.5cm, 1" thick Lucite and then moulded into the cantilevered 'Z' form.
- The low backs are a distinguishing feature of these chairs, the thickness of the lucite and the shaped edges. - The 'Z' chair was designed by Gerrit Rietveld in the early 1930s for Dutch department store Metz & Co, as a minimalistic design originally in elm. - Lucite is a high quality, acrylic resin developed in 1937 and used primarily in furniture design due to its strength, crystal transparency, and flexibility. It is shatterproof and clearer than glass and the perfect material to progress the minimalist concept of the 'z' chair into practical, stylish, seating for the modern or historic interior.
