Ulisse Cantagalli (1839-1901) Florence, exceptional, lustre bottle, circa 1880 - Outstanding, recreation of the complex and subtle 16th century, ornamentation and glazes found on Islamic & Spanish origins lustred pottery from Valencia, Gubbia, and Deruta - Ulisse Cantagalli was an outstanding ceramicist, whose original works are held by influential collectors and renowned Museums such as the Bargello, Florence, the Museo Stibbert, Florence, the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. - The Cantagalli family can be traced to the 15th century, producing ceramics in Florence by the beginning of the 18th century. Casa Cantagalli provided discerning collectors with high quality, artisan manufactured, copies and reproductions from the Renaissance period, and with pieces in the Islamic and Moresque styles. - The main feature of the ornamentation is a phoenix in repeat. - The intensity of the lapis lazuli blue contrasting with the silver creates a shimmering lustre which not captured in the photographs as it is so subtle. - This is one of the most difficult objects to photograph and there is a lot of reflection. - Private collection acquired from The Fine Art Society.
