A late-17th/early-18th century, oak, trestle, school desk with bench

The oval, one-piece top is almost 3" thick in places, and has some old patches. The supports appear to be later and it is possible that the desk has been reduced in size. The bench is attached. The footrest has been removed. Exceptional original colour and patina.

A Cotswold Manor House just outside Burford that was reputedly a school established by a Rev. Samuel Birch in the seventeenth century. The school became famous, at least locally, because several eminent politicians were educated there including Robert Harley. It has reputedly remained in the house since this time.
