An early-18th century, French, cherrywood and chestnut, 'H' stretchered table

The 2 plank, boarded top has cleated ends. The frieze is, ususually, decorated with moulded panels, and the back has two, long sliding panels to reveal storage space. Standing on turned legs on bun feet, which are joined by an 'H' stretcher. Exceptional original colour and patina.

This table has a wonderful, lustrous patina and the mouldings on the frieze are very unusual and give it gravitas. It has sliding panels on the back frieze to reveal compartments, the myth is that this is where the dough would have been left to rise but they have never had handles were more likely incorporated for discreet storage.
