Chest of Drawers, 17th Century, English, Charles II, Oak, Geometric Moulding
11288
This chest of drawers has a lovely mellow color and patina. The carpenter has selected oak with fine medullary rays so that the figuring which is particularly evident on the top, down the sides and the middle of the front has become a charming feature of this chest. The pared down geometric mouldings give the chest an elegant simplicity.
The top is constructed from two pieces of oak faced with a moulded edge. The frieze fitted with four drawers. A pair of shallow short drawers faced with moulded edge, above a deep drawer with geometric mouldings above a long shallow drawer with the same mouldings as on the top pair, above another long, deep drawer with another variant of geometric mouldings. The handles and brasses later. On later stile feet, the sides panelled. Lovely mellow colour and patina, and medullary rays.
